Here are the notes from our DATC phone
call today (April,2008). We'll probably have
another one soon, given some folks were not able to attend (thanks to
John
for the taking notes!).
Attending: Juan-Antonio Carballo, Joe Damore, John Willis, Victor Berman,
Dwight Hill, Ron Waxman
1 - Joe is working on a Blog / Forum
that will be linked to DATC's web site.
Initial is on joedamore.blogspot.com.
Dwight expressed concern that more
venues with the same content volume will spread ever thinner. Joe Damore
suggested that the Chair or another party should edit. Juan-Antonio
advocated a discussion forum initiated with a few, controversial topics.
Joe
pointed out that a blog is free, a forum
has modest cost (perhaps 9-10
dollars per month, computer society may do it for nothing). Dwight suggested
that an interactive web session during DATC meetings, might even replace
minutes. Scanning the online sessions would help people who call in
late or
early to come up to speed.
- ACTION: Joe will work on an online
discussion forum, DATC can provide
funds if needed.
2 - Proposal to ask Patrick to write a summary of EDPS for DATC, will
add
John Darringer's summary. Juan-Antonio asked for contributions over
the
next two weeks. One issue every quarter. Ron Waxman will try to prepare
something.
- ACTION: ALL if you have contributions
for the newsletter, please send them
in no more than 2 weeks. We already have plenty of content and should
be
ready to press the send button then.
3 - Dwight was interested in 'crowdsourcing'. Concern that some people
make
their living with EDA, may limit the openness. Would a company subsidize,
prizes...
- ACTION: Dwight will write up "Call
for solutions" as trial on a specific
problem, default will be the multi-processor based synthesis and routing,
send to JA, and we'll include in newsletter, web site, and possibly
the
discussion forum.
4- other topics to be discussed when other attendees can come (Andrzej,
Gary, etc.)
